Micromechanics-based Continua for granular solids

On June 30, 2023 from 14:00 to 16:30 at the Room Sciola (S4b) of the Santa Chiara Complex will be held the lecture Micromechanics-based Continua for Granular Solids by Luca Placidi (Faculty of Engineering of UNINETTUNO).

Abstract: Prof. Placidi's seminar will discuss a new continuum theory for materials with granular structure, capable of taking into account certain dissipative phenomena such as damage and plasticity. The description of the continuum is constructed by means of purely mechanical concepts and is connected to the micromechanical one through Piola's ansatz. The field equations are deduced from a hemivariactional principle, without incorporating any additional postulates such as flow rules.

Short bio: Prof. Luca Placidi is an expert in the formulation of continuum theories suitable for the description of induced anisotropy and recrystallization in polycrystalline materials. His research has been published in internationally prestigious journals. He is currently working on generalized continuum theories and their application to materials with microstructure subject to damage and onset of residual deformation, using techniques of micromechanics of granular media.
