Dr. Barchiesi and Chiara De Santis speakers at the Conference Modeling Complexity in Mechanics: Theory, Experiments and Simulations 2024
Dr. Emilio Barchiesi and Chiara De Santis presented two talks at the Conference on Modeling Complexity in Mechanics: Theory, Experiments and Simulations 2024 that was held between September 16
and 20, 2024 in Siracusa.
The event was organized by the International Research Center on Mathematics and Mechanics of Complex Systems (M&MoCS) of the University of L’Aquila and University of Catania (Italy).
Dr. Barchiesi in his talk, titled “A first step towards the computation of a novel structural resilience index”, aimed to illustrate a new structural resilience index introduced in Chiaia, Barchiesi, De Biagi and Placidi (2019) and to present new outcomes of ongoing research. Specifically, were presented the application of Branch-and-Bound to the index determination problem and the results of a series of simulations.
While in her talk, titled “Coarse-to-fine vs fine-to-coarse graded
through micro-mechanics-based strain gradient approach to brittle fracture”,
Chiara De Santis presented the results of a simulation campaign focused on
fracture propagation in brittle materials with graded grain size. Different
loading rates and different grain distributions were considered: coarse to fine
and fine to coarse, employing a recent model that makes use of strain gradient
regularization.
