Book "Appunti di Statica delle strutture"
The book “Appunti di Statica delle strutture”, written by Emilio Barchiesi and Gianluca Melino, has been published and can be purchased at this link.
The Statics exam, often considered among the most challenging in Architecture and Engineering courses, is a difficult hurdle for many students to overcome. Many traditional textbooks also tend to discourage students, especially beginners, with a highly theoretical approach that is sometimes distant from practice. Hence the idea of creating a book that can facilitate the first approach to the Statics of Structures, a subject as fascinating as it is fundamental to the education of Architects, Engineers and Surveyors. This text of notes stems from the teaching experience gained by the first author at the Architecture and Engineering courses of the University of L’Aquila, the Uninettuno Telematic University and, lately, the University of Sassari.
The ambition is not to provide a complete and exhaustive treatise, but rather a practical and immediate study companion, capable of accompanying the reader in understanding the basic concepts of statics, without getting lost in too much abstract theory. The focus of the work is on “know how”, exemplified through a large number of practical examples and exercises performed, reducing theory to the bare minimum necessary to understand and apply the fundamental principles.
