On December 03, 2024 from 11:00 to 13:00 at the Tavolara Hall of the Ex Asilo Sella Complex will be held the lecture The role of nonlinearity in seismic response prediction by Ivan Giorgio (University of L’Aquila).
Abstract:
The accurate modeling of seismic wave propagation is crucial for understanding the impact of earthquakes, particularly in regions characterized by complex geological structures. Traditional linear models often fall short in capturing the large deformations and dynamic interactions that occur during high-energy seismic events. This presentation introduces a two-dimensional analysis framework for non-homogeneous isotropic media, emphasizing the significance of non-linear effects in seismic wave propagation.
Short bio:
Ivan Giorgio is an Associate Professor in the Department of civil, building – architecture and environmental engineering at the University of L’Aquila. His research activity is mainly in the area of the disciplinary field of Lagrangian Mechanics. In particular, the topics on which scientific production are based are all referable to the mechanics of the generalized continuums and has studied both static and dynamic innovative materials, also commonly known as metamaterials. He has dealt with also interdisciplinary problems, such as the study of biomechanical systems or electromechanical systems.
