Prof. Barchiesi, Enrico Venditti and Chiara De Santis speakers at the META-MEETING MEMOCS 2025

Enrico Venditti and Chiara De Santis

Prof. Emilio Barchiesi, Enrico Venditti and Chiara De Santis presented three talks at the META-MEETING MEMOCS 2025. Methods in Metamaterials design: mathematical modelling, numerical techniques, experiments, that was held between March 30 and April 4, 2025 in Arpino (Italy).

The event was organized by the International Research Center on Mathematics and Mechanics of Complex Systems (M&MoCS) of the University of L’Aquila.

Prof. Barchiesi in his talk, titled Solitary wave propagation in monolayered pantographic waveguides”, presented original research.

Enrico Venditti in his talk, titled “A first step towards the computation of a novel structural resilience index, aimed to illustrate a new structural resilience index introduced in Chiaia, Barchiesi, De Biagi and Placidi (2019) and to present new outcomes of ongoing research. Specifically, were presented the application of Branch-and-Bound to the index determination problem and the results of a series of simulations.

While in her talk, titled “Coarse-to-fine vs fine-to-coarse graded through micro-mechanics-based strain gradient approach to brittle fracture”, Chiara De Santis presented the results of a simulation campaign focused on fracture propagation in brittle materials with graded grain size. In the context of the talk, different loading rates and different grain distributions were considered: coarse to fine and fine to coarse, employing a recent model, introduced in Valerii Maksimov, Luca Placidi, Francisco James León Trujillo, Chiara De Santis, Anil Misra, Dmitry Timofeev, Francesco Fabbrocino and Emilio Barchiesi (2024), that makes use of strain gradient regularization.
